The Women and Children’s (W&C) Health Committee focuses on the health needs of women and their children with the intention to bridge the gap between health educators and the community, become a trusted credible source of health education materials, and to implement quality programming within the community to advance the health of the women and children that will be served.  

The Environmental Heath & Health Literacy Committee will collaborate with partners and experts in the National Capital Area to improve health literacy and increase awareness and use of health education resources.

The Advocacy Committee will work to increase the awareness, visibility, and advocate for the role of health education specialists in educating the public and improving the health of the populations in Washington DC/Maryland and Virginia.

Those on the committee will also advocate for priority public health issues in disease prevention and health promotion in the DMV area.

Assist NCA SOPHE with planning and coordinating DMV events for health professionals and practitioners to connect via conferences, summits, webinars, socials, etc.

The Communications & Marketing Committee will be responsible for the development and implementation of the marketing and public relations plans for NCA SOPHE, including the design and production of all associated collateral. In addition, s/he will be responsible for the maintenance of the agency website and social media channels and the production of the annual report, event press releases, fundraising appeals, the agency newsletter, and other institutional communications. This position also coordinates and manages NCA SOPHE’s volunteer function to ensure adequate volunteer support at all NCA SOPHE Development events.

The Leadership & Chapter Development provides leadership for ensuring that the Chapter has the infrastructure, resources, policies, and procedures necessary to ensure the most effective and efficient operation of the Chapter. They provide leadership in developing and implementing a leadership development plan to ensure effective and efficient leadership by all officers and committee chairpersons.

This committee keeps a general record of the chapter's accomplishments and activities, and maintains historical records of the organization.  It also maintains communications with past leaders and members of the organization for purposes of “historical memory”, and coordinates maintenance of records with the National SOPHE Office.

This committee furthers organizational goals by actively recruiting, retaining, and engaging members. They also respond to current and potential member inquiries, monitor membership status changes, and provide feedback pertaining to recruitment and retainment efforts.

Responsible for developing policy and program recommendations for continuing education programs (webinars and trainings) and for working collaboratively with the other committees to implement program recommendations.
